Top 8 Ways to Prevent Cancer

1. Avoid Smoking and Exposure to Smoke
Smoking is the most significant cancer risk factor that we can reduce. It is responsible for not only lung cancer, but many other types of cancer. One of the best ways to prevent cancer is to quit smoking or never start. As soon as you quit, and it's never too late, your body reaps the benefits of being tobacco-free.
Avoiding secondhand smoke is also a way to prevent cancer. Secondhand smoke is the smoke exhaled from a smoker or a lit cigarette, pipe or cigar. This smoke contains more than 60 known carcinogens". These carcinogens interrupt normal cell development. This interference is what ignites cancer development.

2. Eat Fruits and Veggies
A well-balanced diet is advantageous for many reasons. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables greatly reduces your risk of developing cancer and many other conditions.
Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, which help repair our damaged cells. Green, orange and yellow fruits and vegetables are your best bet to help prevent cancer. Studies also show that dark fruits, like blueberries and grapes, may also have anti-cancer properties.
Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower appear to pack a powerful punch at preventing cancer, according to numerous studies. Other cruciferous vegetables include bok choy, Brussel sprouts, and cabbage.
Numerous studies show that a diet high in animal fat increases the risk for several types of cancer, particularly colon cancer. Red meat contains much more fat than poultry and fish, so reducing the amount of red meat in your diet may help to prevent cancer. A diet high in fat also is major cause of obesity, which is a risk factor for many types of cancer.

3. Limit Red Meat and Animal Fat

4. Exercise for Cancer Prevention
Did you know that when you are exercise, you are reducing your risk for many types of cancer? The American Cancer Society recommends exercising 30 or minutes, at least 5 days a week for cancer prevention. Exercising doesn't have to mean going to the gym to lift weights. There are plenty of ways to get exercise into your day. Check out these 10 ways to prevent cancer through exercise for great gym alternatives.

5. Know Your Personal and Family Medical History
Knowing your family history of cancer is important to properly assess your risk factor for certain types of cancer. We know that cancers like breast, colon, ovarian, and possibly other types can be hereditary.
If you know that a certain type of cancer runs in your family, let your doctor know. Together, you can determine a proper screening plan and assess your true risk. Genetic testing and counseling is available and may be recommended based on your family's medical history.

6. Know what you're being exposed to in Your Work Environment
Chemicals in the workplace may increase your risk of developing many types of cancer, including kidney cancer and bladder cancer. If you are exposed to fumes, dust, chemicals, etc. in the workplace, you have a legal right to know what you are being exposed to. Gasoline, diesel exhaust, arsenic, beryllium, vinyl chloride, nickel chromates, coal products, mustard gas, and chloromethyl ethers are all carcinogens and can be found in some work environments. Talk to your employer about limiting exposure.

7. Practice Safe Sex
You may wonder what sex has to do with cancer. Unsafe sex can result in the infection of the human papillomairus (HPV), a known cause for cervical cancer and a risk factor for many other types of cancer. HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection that is spread through sexual, skin-to-skin contact. A vaccine, Gardasil, to prevent HPV was approved by the FDA in 2006 and protects against four strains of HPV that are associated with cervical cancer and other types. HIV/AIDS is also associated with some types of cancers.

8. Get Screened for Cancer Regularly
Cancer screening tests can be useful not only in detecting cancer, but also helping prevent it. Screening tests like the colonoscopy and Pap smear can detect abnormal cellular changes before they turn cancerous. The key to their effectiveness, however, is that they are done regularly.
Other cancer screening tests are available and may be useful for early detection, but not necessarily cancer prevention. Prostate cancer screening through digital rectal exams and PSA tests can help detect prostate cancer early. Mammograms and other imaging tools are also recommended to detect breast cancer in women.

How to Make Chicken Soup

Chicken soup is a healthy and recommended food - just like I myself used to make. This delicious recipe serves 6.
Ingredients
  • 1 chicken, 3 to 4 pounds
  • parsley
  • 2-1/2 quarts cold water
  • 2 cubes chicken bouillon
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery with leaves, chopped
  • 2 large carrots, chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Steps
      1: Rinse chicken thoroughly
      2: Trim off excess fat.
3: Cut chicken into quarters and place in a large stock pot.
4: Add the water (or broth) and 2 teaspoons salt and bay leaf.
5: Cover the pot and bring to boil.
6: Uncover and skim off the top froth
      7: Allow to simmer 2 1/4 hours
8: Add the onions, celery, and carrots and parsley.
9: Allow to simmer 45 minutes.
10: Place cooked noodles or rice in bowl and pour soup over it.
Variations
  • Substitute rice or dumplings for the noodles.
  • Substitute broth for water when cooking rice or noodles for more flavor.
  • Season with lots of dill. Salt and dill is all I use.
  • Add a splash of dry white wine for added layer of flavor - the alcohol cooks out so it's safe for children.
  • Add one can of tomatoes, drained. Alternatively spicy V-8 juice imparts a different flavor.
  • Use soy sauce and ginger for an Asian-style soup.
  • Add a can of refrigerator biscuits (cut into quarters) to soup in addition to noodles...simmer until biscuits are no longer doughy.

How to Fight Back If you’re attacked

Instantly stop any attacker -- regardless of your age, gender, shape or size!

1 - Let the person know you are aware of their presence.
Immediately turn to where you heard the noise. Firmly and loudly say, “I hear you. I don't want any trouble. Go away right now.” Most attackers will judge you based on your initial reaction.

2 - Ready your body.
Bring your hands up in front of your chest and put one leg slightly in front of the other, shoulder-width apart, with your weight evenly distributed. This “ready stance” allows you to move easily and shows the attacker you are not backing down.

3 - Ready your hair.
If you have long hair, tuck it into the back of your outfit. If you have a ponytail, quickly undo it and do the same. Many attackers reach for a woman's hair first.

4 - Take a quick personal inventory.
Do you have an umbrella? Books? A pen? Any object you have can be used as your personal weapon. You'll want to hang on to these. If you're empty-handed, try to grab any object within reach, such as a trash can lid or a branch off a tree. If you can swing or poke with it, it could save your life.

5 - Yell “fire.”
If your attacker continues to approach you and there aren't many people nearby, yell “Fire!” You're more likely to get others attention this way.

6 - Enlist people's help.
If there are people nearby, ask them to call for help. Be specific as they're likely to panic. Say something like, “Hey, you in the yellow shirt, call 119! This man won't leave me alone.”

7 - Wait for your moment to explode and escape.
If you're been attacked and are pinned on the ground, be temporarily complacent. In order for him to hit you, or for a sexual assault to take place, he will have to let go of you somewhere. When he does, use your free arm or leg to hit, gouge, kick or scratch as hard and as fast as you can. If been you're tossed onto your stomach, try to get your arms and hands under your chest; this will give you leverage and ensure that you can breathe. In this same position, try to bend a leg to the side and rest on your hip; in an unsuspecting moment, you can kick the bent leg straight back and smash his groin.

If you like to see how it is done and learn some of the moves you could which this youtube video and use it if you must.

How to Impress a Guy

Steps
1: Smile. Remember to always smile if you get near him or see him once he looks at you.

2: Make the first move. Most girls don't think that they should, but it's usually worth it. A guy loves to know that a girl isn't so shy being with him and is setting a comfortable environment around him. A lot of guys consider this to be a really cool thing to do, as it takes a lot of the stress off of them.

3: Ask him a question. Guys love that a girl is actually the one who flirts with him first. Once you get to know him better, don't be afraid to start giving him hugs and such because it will help the guy know you like him.

4: Compliment him. You could say, "I like your shirt," or, "I love your hair," but make it kind of casual, guys like feeling confident.

5: Act as if you're flirting, but when you go up to him, just compliment him on something you admire him for. He will feel less pressured to go to you and talk then.

6: Make sure that he is looking, and you look at him for exactly two seconds while smiling. Don't go any longer than two seconds or else it will turn into a staring contest and that will get awkward for both you and him.

7: Make sure you wear perfume. Everybody, guys or girls, likes someone who smells sweet, so take note to always wear somebody mist or light perfume, but not too much.

8: Talk to him. It's simple - just make conversation. If he likes you, he might even start the conversation.

9: Don't start shaking all over and turning red when you start talking to him. That'll just make him uninterested in you, and he'll obviously guess that you're crushing on him, and it'll make you seem "boring". Don't make yourself seem too urgent to have him as a boyfriend, it makes you seem like you're desperate.

10: If you have noticed him glancing over at you or smiling at you, try dropping a hint or asking one of your friends to tell him that you like him. This may sound like a rubbish idea, but when I told my friend who I liked and my friend and I fell out, she told him. And it turned out that yesterday he thinks I'm really nice and he wanted my number! Do not always think telling the guy is the wrong decision.

How to Get Fit

Steps

1: Incorporate more physical exercise into your daily routine. You're probably out of shape because you don't regularly challenge your body to do anything out of the daily range of motion. So start your own exercise regimen and stick to it.

2: Switch things up. Any physical activity that causes at least a little bit of strain will help you get fit, but it's important to remember that variety is the spice of life. Keep both your body and your mind guessing by enjoying a diversity of activities and having fun:
Dance for exercise. Anything from ballet dance to break dancing or even jump style will increase your fitness if you stick with it.
Jump in the pool. It doesn't matter if you're treading water, dog paddling, or mastering the butterfly stroke. Swimming is a good form of exercise that can be fun, too.

3: Give your body fuel. As you become more active, you'll need more food, but not just any food--you need healthy, energy-laden food that'll jump start the next phase of your day, not weigh it down. Learn how to eat healthfully and drink more water.

4: Let your body rest. When you're giving your body a run for its money with varied physical activities, you also need to let it recover and renew by getting a sufficient amount of sleep. Determine how many hours of sleep you need in order to feel refreshed in the morning, then discipline yourself to wake up and go to bed at the same times on a daily basis.

5: Get a check-up. To stay fit in the long run, you should perform regular maintenance on your body, just as you would with a car. Take yourself to the doctor and dentist regularly to make sure everything is running smoothly on the inside and to prevent any potential problems from arising.
